Zoom Loupe
The Zoom tool provides an interactive magnification viewer for examining image details. It displays the original image alongside a magnified view.
Getting Started
- Open Zoom.
- Upload an image.
- Use the Zoom slider to select a magnification level.
- Click a location within the original image viewer.
- Inspect that location in the magnification pane.
Viewer Layout
The Zoom tool contains two main panels.
| Panel | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Left viewer | Displays the uploaded image |
| Right viewer | Displays the magnified area |
The right viewer updates based on the selected zoom factor and focus point.
Zoom Range
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum | 1× |
| Maximum | 8× |
| Default | 1× |
The zoom range uses integer increments.
1× — Fit
At 1×, the whole image is fitted within the magnification viewer.
The label displays:
1× (fit)Higher Zoom Levels
At zoom factors above 1×, the image is magnified relative to its fitted size.
For example:
2×
4×
8×These factors describe enlargement relative to the fitted image scale, not necessarily a one-to-one relationship with physical display pixels.
Changing the Focus Point
Click inside the left image viewer to set the magnification focus.
The application records the clicked location and uses it to position the image in the right viewer.
The requested point is centered where possible.
Near image edges, positioning is constrained to keep the magnified image within the available viewing area.
Responsive Behavior
The Zoom viewer updates when the browser window or viewing panel changes size.
This helps maintain the magnification layout across different screen sizes.
Example Workflow
To inspect a small region of a photograph:
- Upload the image.
- Set Zoom to 4×.
- Click the region of interest in the left viewer.
- Inspect its enlarged representation on the right.
- Move the focus point by clicking another location.
Common Uses
- Inspecting small visual details
- Reviewing image artifacts
- Checking alignment
- Examining graphic elements
- Evaluating image appearance at larger display sizes
Limitations
Zoom Loupe is primarily a viewing utility.
The supplied implementation does not include a separate export function for the magnified area.
It also does not implement image enhancement or resolution recovery.
Increasing zoom enlarges existing image information.
Troubleshooting
No Image Appears
Ensure the selected file can be decoded by the browser.
The Magnified Pane Shows the Entire Image
Check whether the zoom factor is still set to 1×.
The Wrong Area Is Magnified
Click the desired location again in the left viewer.
The Image Looks Blurry at High Zoom
Magnification cannot reconstruct detail that does not exist in the source image.
Use a higher-resolution original where available.
Tip: Zoom Loupe is useful for inspection, while Studio is the appropriate tool for editing and exporting image modifications.
