Phone and Email Verification
VerAI includes tools for validating US phone number formats and inspecting email domain infrastructure. These tools evaluate available technical information rather than confirming a person's identity.
Phone Verification
The Phone Verification module uses the Python phonenumbers library.
It validates telephone numbers using numbering-plan information.
How to Use
- Open VerAI.
- Enter a US phone number.
- Submit the number.
- Review the validation result.
Supported Input
The supplied implementation accepts US numbers after removing formatting characters.
| Input | Accepted Format |
|---|---|
2025550142 | 10 digits |
12025550142 | 11 digits, beginning with 1 |
(202) 555-0142 | Formatting removed before validation |
+1 202-555-0142 | Formatting removed before validation |
Examples use fictional telephone numbers.
Phone Validation Checks
The application performs two main checks.
Possible Number
Determines whether the number's structure is possible under the library's numbering rules.
Valid Number
Determines whether the number belongs to a recognized, valid numbering range according to the library's metadata.
Both checks must succeed for the number to be accepted.
Returned Information
For a valid number, VerAI returns:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Phone Number | Submitted input |
| Valid | Successful numbering validation |
| Country | Country information associated with the number |
| Time Zones | Associated time-zone information |
Limitations
Phone verification does not establish:
- Whether the number is currently active
- Whether someone can receive calls or texts
- Whether the number is associated with a particular person
- Whether a call or message is fraudulent
- Whether the caller ID has been spoofed
Although the source imports carrier-related functionality, the active phone analysis does not return a carrier lookup.
The supplied module also does not implement a live carrier or subscriber verification service.
Email Verification
The Email Verification module inspects infrastructure associated with the domain portion of an email address.
How to Use
- Enter an email address.
- Submit the address.
- Review MX record information and domain age.
Example
VerAI extracts:
example.comand analyzes that domain.
MX Record Lookup
Mail Exchange (MX) records identify servers responsible for receiving email for a domain.
Example
10 mail.example.com
20 backup.example.comThe values above are illustrative.
Returned Information
The module returns available MX records or a lookup error.
An MX record generally indicates a configured mail-routing destination.
It does not establish that a particular mailbox exists.
Domain Age
VerAI queries WHOIS information and attempts to determine the domain's creation date.
It calculates an approximate age in days.
Example
Domain Age: 1200 daysThis is an illustrative result.
Interpretation
Domain age can provide useful background information.
A newly registered domain is not necessarily malicious, and an old domain is not necessarily trustworthy.
Established domains can be compromised or repurposed.
Email Verification Limitations
The module does not perform:
- SMTP mailbox verification
- Email ownership confirmation
- Deliverability testing
- SPF validation
- DKIM validation
- DMARC validation
- Email message analysis
- Sender identity verification
It also uses basic string splitting to extract the domain, rather than a complete standards-compliant email address parser.
Comparison
| Capability | Phone | |
|---|---|---|
| Format or numbering validation | Yes | Limited |
| Geographic metadata | Country/time-zone data | Not directly |
| Domain infrastructure | Not applicable | MX records |
| Registration history | Not applicable | WHOIS domain age |
| Owner identity verification | No | No |
| Active contact confirmation | No | No |
Responsible Use
Phone and email analysis should be treated as supporting metadata.
Do not use these results alone to accuse individuals or organizations of fraud.
Important: VerAI verifies limited technical properties of phone numbers and email domains. It does not authenticate their owners.
