Image Analysis

The Analyze tool examines image characteristics and generates a report containing color, entropy, transparency, and file information. It is intended for quick image inspection and comparison.

How to Use

  1. Open Analyze.
  2. Upload an image.
  3. Review the image preview.
  4. Click Analyze.
  5. Read the generated report.

Analysis Report

The report includes:

MeasurementDescription
Number of colorsCount of coarse color groups
EntropyShannon entropy of the grouped color distribution
TransparencyPercentage of analyzed pixels with alpha below 255
File sizeOriginal uploaded file size
DimensionsOriginal image width and height
FormatExtension extracted from the filename
HeuristicA basic classification derived from color and entropy thresholds

Number of Colors

The tool groups pixel colors using quantized RGB values.

The reported count represents the number of occupied color groups, not necessarily the exact number of unique RGB colors in the original image.

This distinction matters when an image contains thousands or millions of slightly different pixel values.

Image Entropy

Entropy estimates the variability of the image's color distribution.

The implementation uses Shannon entropy:

H = -Σ p(i) × log₂(p(i))

Where:

  • p(i) is the proportion of pixels belonging to color group i
  • H is the resulting entropy value in bits

Interpreting Entropy

Lower entropy may indicate a simpler color distribution.

Higher entropy may indicate greater color variability.

Entropy does not directly measure visual quality, artistic merit, or image professionalism.

Transparency

The transparency measurement reports the proportion of analyzed pixels whose alpha value is below 255.

Example

If 25% of sampled pixels have alpha below 255:

Transparency: 25.00%

The measurement counts partially transparent pixels as well as fully transparent pixels.

It does not calculate average opacity.

File Size

File size is reported in kilobytes using the uploaded file's size.

Example:

File size: 245.80 KB

Dimensions

The report uses the image's natural dimensions.

Example:

Dimensions: 1920 × 1080 px

Format

The displayed format is inferred from the uploaded filename extension.

For example:

Format: PNG

This field does not perform independent binary file-format verification.

Heuristic Classification

Creativity Land includes a simple classification based on the measured color-group count and entropy.

ConditionClassification
Colors ≤ 100 and entropy ≤ 7.5Professional
Colors ≤ 200 and entropy ≤ 8.5Possibly Professional
OtherwiseColorful/Organic

These labels are the names used by the application's heuristic.

They are not scientifically validated assessments of design quality.

An image can be highly professional regardless of its entropy or color count.

Analysis Resolution

The tool draws the image into a preview canvas and analyzes the pixels in that canvas.

This means the color and entropy measurements depend on the rendered analysis resolution rather than a complete scan of every original image pixel.

The source dimensions are reported separately.

Example Report

An illustrative result might look like:

Number of colors: 84
Entropy: 6.72 bits
Transparency: 0.00%
File size: 245.80 KB
Dimensions: 1920 × 1080 px
Format: PNG
Heuristic: Professional

These numbers are examples, not measured results from a particular image.

Recommended Uses

  • Compare approximate image color complexity
  • Inspect transparency
  • Check file dimensions
  • Review file size
  • Explore differences between visual designs
  • Examine dominant color variability

Limitations

The tool does not perform:

  • Image authenticity verification
  • Malware scanning
  • Object recognition
  • Professional design certification
  • Complete file metadata analysis
  • Comprehensive image quality measurement

Note: The heuristic labels describe simple mathematical thresholds. They should not be used as objective quality rankings.
