Different tools use different algorithms and formats. Not all generated keys are interchangeable between tools.

Password Tools

Random Password Generator

Generate passwords containing uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

Password length is configurable from 8 to 128 characters.

Deterministic Password Generator

Generate repeatable passwords using a seed phrase, site identifier, and counter.

The same inputs produce the same password.

Password Strength Checker

Evaluate passwords using a four-point checklist covering length and selected character classes.

Encryption Tools

Text Encryption

Encrypt text using AES-256-GCM.

Choose between:

  • A randomly generated AES key downloaded as key.bin
  • A password-derived AES key using PBKDF2

Encrypted text is downloaded as encrypted.bin.

Text Decryption

Decrypt an encrypted.bin file using the appropriate password or key file.

File Encryption

Encrypt arbitrary file bytes with AES-256-GCM.

Encrypted output uses the .enc extension.

Hashing and Authentication

The Hash tool calculates SHA-256, SHA-384, or SHA-512 digests for text and files.

HMAC provides message signing and verification using shared secret keys.

JWT tools can decode token contents and verify supported HMAC signatures.

Public-Key Cryptography

Cryptology Monster can generate:

  • RSA-OAEP encryption keypairs
  • Ed25519 signing keypairs
  • OpenPGP keypairs

OpenPGP tools also support message encryption, decryption, signing, and signature verification.

Encoding Tools

The application supports:

  • Base64 encoding and decoding
  • Base32 encoding and decoding
  • QR code creation and decoding

Encoding does not provide confidentiality.

Requirements

Cryptology Monster requires a browser with JavaScript enabled.

Many cryptographic operations use the Web Crypto API, which generally requires a secure browser context such as HTTPS.

Some capabilities depend on browser support or additional JavaScript libraries.

Working with Results

Many tools display results in a modal window.

Depending on the operation, users can:

  • Review generated values
  • Copy text to the clipboard
  • Download cryptographic files
  • Close or move the result window

Some encryption and key generation tools initiate file downloads automatically.

Security Considerations

Cryptographic security depends on more than the algorithm name.

Important factors include:

  • Password strength
  • Secure storage of private keys
  • Correct handling of encryption keys
  • Proper verification of signatures
  • Trustworthy software and dependencies
  • Appropriate encryption formats
  • Correct use of the generated output

Important: Losing an encryption key or password can make encrypted information permanently unrecoverable.
