ETWriter
ETWriter is a browser-based text editor, hexadecimal editor, and bulk file-processing utility developed by QVLX. It combines source-code editing, binary inspection, and command-driven text transformations in a single interface, with support for local file operations through compatible browsers.

Core Features
ETWriter provides three operating modes:
| Mode | Description | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|
| Editor | Edit UTF-8 text with language-aware syntax highlighting | Source code, text, configuration files |
| Hex Editor | Inspect and modify files at the byte level | Binary inspection and modification |
| Bulk | Execute text-processing commands across multiple files | Repetitive editing and batch transformations |
Text Editor
The Editor mode uses CodeMirror when available and offers:
- Syntax highlighting for supported programming and markup languages
- Line numbers
- Line wrapping
- Active-line highlighting
- Automatic language selection based on file extensions
- Manual language selection
- UTF-8 text input and output
If CodeMirror is unavailable, ETWriter falls back to a standard text area.
Hex Editor
Hex Editor mode allows users to inspect and edit the underlying byte values of files.
Features include:
- Hexadecimal byte representation
- Color-coded byte values
- Live ASCII preview
- Byte-count display
- Binary file opening and saving
Hex editing works with bytes rather than the textual meaning of a document.
Bulk Processing
Bulk mode applies a sequence of text transformation commands to supported files within a directory.
Operations include:
- Finding and replacing text
- Removing matching text
- Inserting text after matches
- Adding lines after matching lines
- Inserting or replacing lines by position
- Deleting specified lines
- Adding blank lines
ETWriter processes eligible text files and preserves relative paths in its generated output.
Local File Operations
ETWriter supports two file-handling strategies.
| Browser Capability | Behavior |
|---|---|
| File System Access API available | Uses browser-native open, save, and directory pickers |
| File System Access API unavailable | Uses file selection and downloadable output |
| Bulk fallback | Creates a ZIP archive containing processed files |
Saving requires user interaction and browser permissions.
Supported Languages
ETWriter provides syntax modes for:
| Language | Extensions or Formats |
|---|---|
| Plain Text | General text |
| JavaScript | JS, MJS, CJS |
| TypeScript | TS |
| JSX and TSX | JSX, TSX |
| JSON | JSON |
| HTML | HTML, HTM |
| CSS | CSS, SCSS |
| Markdown | MD, Markdown |
| XML | XML |
| YAML | YAML, YML |
| Shell | SH, Bash |
| Python | PY |
| Java | JAVA |
| C and C++ | C, H, CPP, CXX, HPP, HXX |
| Go | GO |
| Rust | RS |

Syntax highlighting depends on the corresponding CodeMirror modes being available.

Privacy and Data Handling
ETWriter's supplied implementation reads and processes files through browser APIs.
The application provides a Purge Data control that attempts to clear locally accessible browser data.
Browser-side processing does not by itself establish the privacy practices of the complete deployed site. Consult the application's privacy information when handling sensitive material.
