Embed. Extract. Detect.

Stegodon is a browser-based steganography tool by QVLx for hiding messages or files inside images and WAV audio.

It provides three primary workflows:

  • Embed — hide text or a file inside an image or WAV carrier
  • Extract — recover a hidden payload from a stego image or WAV
  • Detect — analyze a file for signs of LSB-based steganography

All processing runs locally in the browser.

Core Features

FeatureDescription
Image steganographyHides payload bits in image RGB least significant bits
WAV steganographyHides payload bits in PCM WAV sample least significant bits
Text payloadsEmbed plain text messages
File payloadsEmbed arbitrary files and preserve the filename
1-bit or 2-bit LSBChoose stealthier or higher-capacity embedding
Channel selectionChoose R, G, B, or combined channels for images
Randomized placementShuffle payload placement using a passphrase-derived seed
EncryptionEncrypt payload bytes using AES-GCM
Capacity analysisEstimate approximate carrier capacity before embedding
ExtractionRecover text or downloadable file payloads
DetectionSearch for a Stegodon header and compute LSB suspicion heuristics
On-device processingNo server upload or cloud processing required
Theme supportMultiple built-in interface themes

Supported Carrier Types

Images

Stegodon accepts image files as carriers and exports the stego result as PNG.

PNG is used because lossless output preserves exact embedded bits.

Audio

Stegodon supports WAV (PCM 8-bit or 16-bit) files.

Compressed audio formats are not supported for embedding or extraction.

Typical Use Cases

  • Hide a private note inside an image
  • Conceal a small file inside a carrier image or WAV
  • Demonstrate LSB steganography for educational purposes
  • Recover previously embedded payloads
  • Run a quick heuristic detection pass on suspicious media

Important Notes

  • Stegodon is designed around LSB steganography
  • Detection results are heuristic, not definitive proof
  • JPEG or heavily edited media may destroy hidden data or produce noisy detection results
  • Using 2-bit embedding increases capacity but makes changes easier to detect
  • Randomization and encryption are independent features and can be used together

Main Sections

Stegodon is organized into four tabs:

  • Embed
  • Extract
  • Detect
  • Help

Privacy

Stegodon performs embedding, extraction, and detection locally in your browser.

No backend upload workflow is implemented in the supplied application code.
