Image Conversion
Creativity Land includes two conversion interfaces:
•Convert: Basic image-format conversion
•Convert Images: Image conversion with adjustable output quality
Both operate using browser-based image decoding and Canvas processing.
Supported Output Formats
| Format | Extension | Description |
|---|---|---|
| PNG | .png | Lossless raster format with transparency support |
| JPEG | .jpg | Lossy photographic image format |
| WebP | .webp | Web-oriented image format |
| SVG (raster-wrapped) | .svg | SVG containing an embedded raster image |
Actual encoding support depends on the browser.
Basic Conversion
The Convert tab provides a simple workflow.
How to Use
- Open Convert.
- Upload an image.
- Choose the target output format.
- Click Convert & Download.
- Save the generated file.
The original image dimensions are used for the output canvas.
Output Quality
The basic converter uses fixed quality arguments for lossy output:
| Format | Requested Quality |
|---|---|
| JPEG | 92% |
| WebP | 95% |
| PNG | Lossless canvas PNG export |
Quality values are requested from the browser encoder and do not guarantee a particular file size.
Convert Images — Advanced Quality Control
The Convert Images tab provides a separate quality slider.
How to Use
- Open Convert Images.
- Upload the desired image.
- Select PNG, JPG, WebP, or SVG.
- If using JPG or WebP, adjust Quality.
- Click Convert & Download.
Quality Settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Minimum | 50% |
| Maximum | 100% |
| Default | 92% |
The Quality slider appears for JPEG and WebP output.
For PNG and SVG output, the slider is hidden because the implementation does not use this setting.
PNG
PNG supports transparency and lossless encoding.
It is useful for:
- Logos
- Screenshots
- Interface graphics
- Illustrations with hard edges
- Images requiring transparency
JPEG
JPEG is typically suitable for photographic images.
Higher quality settings generally preserve more image detail but can produce larger files.
JPEG does not preserve transparency.
Transparent pixels may appear against an opaque background when converted to JPEG.
WebP
WebP is useful for web publishing.
Depending on encoder support and settings, it can provide efficient compression.
Creativity Land passes the selected quality value to the browser's WebP encoder.
SVG Export
Creativity Land offers an option called:
SVG (raster-wrapped)
This is not true raster-to-vector conversion.
The generated SVG contains an embedded PNG representation of the image.
Conceptual Example
<svg xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
width="800"
height="600">
<image href="data:image/png;base64,..."
width="800"
height="600"/>
</svg>Important Distinction
A raster-wrapped SVG does not convert photograph pixels into editable vector paths.
Scaling it beyond the original raster resolution does not provide the infinite resolution associated with genuine vector artwork.
Output Filenames
Generated files use names such as:
converted.png
converted.jpg
converted.webp
converted.svgLimitations
GIF Encoding
The supplied converter does not provide animated GIF encoding.
Converting a GIF through a normal image-and-canvas workflow generally processes a single rendered frame rather than preserving an animation.
Browser Support
If a browser lacks support for an output format, the result may differ from the requested format.
Image Metadata
Canvas-based re-encoding does not guarantee preservation of original EXIF data, ICC profiles, or other file metadata.
Resolution
The converters normally use the source image's natural width and height.
Recommended Workflow
For photographs, try JPEG or WebP.
For images requiring transparency, use PNG.
For web page graphics, consider WebP where supported.
Use raster-wrapped SVG only when an SVG container is specifically needed.
Important: Selecting SVG does not automatically transform a raster image into vector artwork.
