Data Processing and Encoding

WebZone provides utilities for manipulating JSON, encoding URL components, and converting text to or from Base64.

JSON Tools

JSON tools provide three operations:

  • Format
  • Minify
  • Validate

JSON Formatting

Formatting converts valid JSON into an indented, human-readable representation.

Input:

{"name":"WebZone","enabled":true,"count":3}

Output:

{
  "name": "WebZone",
  "enabled": true,
  "count": 3
}

WebZone uses two-space indentation.

JSON Minification

JSON minification removes unnecessary formatting whitespace.

Input:

{
  "name": "WebZone",
  "enabled": true
}

Output:

{"name":"WebZone","enabled":true}

JSON Validation

JSON validation attempts to parse the input with the browser's JSON parser.

Valid input produces a success message.

Invalid input produces an error message identifying the parsing failure.

Usage

  1. Select JSON Tools.
  2. Paste JSON into the input area.
  3. Choose Format, Minify, or Validate.
  4. Review the result.

Important Considerations

JSON requires valid syntax, including double-quoted property names.

Trailing commas and JavaScript-style comments are not valid standard JSON.

The formatting and minification operations parse and reserialize data, so original whitespace and number or string representations may not be preserved exactly.

URL Encoding and Decoding

URL encoding converts characters into percent-encoded representations suitable for URL components.

Encoding

Input:

hello world & more

Output:

hello%20world%20%26%20more

Decoding

Input:

hello%20world%20%26%20more

Output:

hello world & more

Usage

  1. Select URL Tools.
  2. Enter the input.
  3. Click Encode or Decode.
  4. Review the output.

Implementation

WebZone uses JavaScript's native:

encodeURIComponent()
decodeURIComponent()

These functions operate on URL components, not necessarily entire URLs.

For example, encoding a complete URL will also encode characters such as colons and slashes.

Errors

Malformed percent-encoded strings can cause decoding to fail.

Base64 Encoding and Decoding

Base64 is an encoding scheme used to represent data with printable characters.

WebZone supports Base64 operations on text, including UTF-8 text.

Encoding Example

Input:

WebZone

Output:

V2ViWm9uZQ==

Decoding Example

Input:

V2ViWm9uZQ==

Output:

WebZone

Usage

  1. Select Base64 Tools.
  2. Enter plain text or Base64-encoded text.
  3. Click Encode or Decode.
  4. Review the result.

Character Encoding

The implementation converts text through UTF-8 for Base64 operations.

This allows many non-ASCII characters to be encoded and decoded correctly.

Errors

Decoding fails if the input is invalid Base64 or does not represent valid UTF-8 text.

Security Considerations

Base64 is not encryption.

Anyone with access to a Base64-encoded value can decode it.

Do not use Base64 alone to protect passwords, credentials, confidential messages, or other sensitive information.

Output Management

Generated results can be viewed, copied, and downloaded using the WebZone result viewer.

Recommended Uses

JSON tools are useful for configuration files, API responses, and structured data inspection.

URL encoding is useful for safely representing individual URL parameters and components.

Base64 is useful when text must be represented in an encoding-compatible form, but not when confidentiality is required.
