Themes and Calculation History
Radix Quest includes customizable appearance themes and an in-session calculation history.
Available Themes
| Theme | Selector Name |
|---|---|
| Automatic | Auto (system) |
| Nocturne | Nocturne (default) |
| Aurora | Aurora Prism |
| Cyber Violet | Cyber Violet |
| Ocean Glass | Ocean Glass |
| Terminal | Terminal Mono |
| Paper | Paper Ivory |
Changing Themes
- Find the Theme selector in the application header.
- Open the dropdown.
- Select the preferred appearance.
- The application applies the selection immediately.
Automatic Theme
The Auto setting is designed to follow the operating system's light or dark appearance preference.
Radix Quest listens for system color-scheme changes while Auto is selected.
The final visual appearance is controlled by the application's stylesheet.
Theme Persistence
The selected theme is stored using browser localStorage.
Storage key:
calcconvert.themeFor example:
nocturneThe application reads the saved theme when the page initializes.
If no valid saved theme is available, it defaults to Nocturne.
Local Storage Availability
Theme persistence uses a try/catch block.
If browser storage is unavailable or blocked, the application can still apply the selected theme for the current page session.
The choice may not persist after reloading.
Calculation History
The Calculator includes a History panel below the result.
Each successful evaluation adds a new entry containing:
- Original expression
- Displayed result
- Calculation timestamp stored internally
The timestamp is not shown as a separate field in the current history interface.
History Capacity
Radix Quest retains up to:
30 entriesWhen the limit is exceeded, the oldest entry is removed.
New calculations appear first.
Reusing an Expression
Click:
↺ Use
The selected expression is restored to the calculator input.
The application then reevaluates it using the currently selected calculator settings.
This can produce a different result if the mode, bit width, signedness, or input base has changed.
Copying Results
Click Copy beside a history entry.
The application attempts to copy the displayed result using the browser Clipboard API.
A temporary Copied confirmation appears when successful.
Clipboard access depends on browser permissions and security-context requirements.
Clearing History
Click:
Clear history
This empties the in-memory history list.
Clearing the Current Calculation
Click:
Clear
This removes:
- The current expression
- Primary result
- Multi-base result
- Bit visualization
- Warning message
It does not remove calculation history.
Does History Persist?
No.
The supplied implementation stores history in a JavaScript array, not localStorage or a database.
History is lost when the page is reloaded or the session ends.
Only the theme selection is intentionally persisted through localStorage.
Privacy Considerations
Calculation history remains within the page's runtime memory in the supplied implementation.
There is no history synchronization or account-based history storage.
However, JavaScript executing in the same page context can potentially access application state or displayed calculations.
Best Practices
- Copy important results before closing the page.
- Clear history when working on a shared device.
- Check the active calculator settings before reusing expressions.
- Select Auto if you want appearance to follow your system preferences.
- Use Nocturne for the application's original default appearance.
Note: Repeated evaluations, including some setting changes that trigger reevaluation, can add entries to history.
