Text and Typography

The Text & Style panel controls text overlays for the selected animation frame. Each frame can have different text and styling.

Text Field

Enter the text to display on the current frame.

Example:

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

The implementation draws the supplied string through the Canvas 2D API.

Text is not interpreted as HTML or JavaScript.

Font Family

GIF Ops provides these font choices:

FontTypical Appearance
ImpactBold, condensed caption style
AntonBold display typography
InterClean modern sans-serif
System UINative operating-system style
Arial BlackHeavy sans-serif
GeorgiaTraditional serif
Courier NewMonospaced

The page loads Inter and Anton from Google Fonts.

Other choices use installed system fonts or configured fallbacks.

Font Size

The Font Size input provides an interface range of:

8 to 256 pixels

The initial value is:

32 px

A larger size makes the text more prominent.

Consider the GIF's dimensions when selecting a size.

Alignment

Three text alignment options are available.

OptionBehavior
CenterText is centered around its anchor
LeftText begins at its anchor
RightText ends at its anchor

Alignment changes how the caption is positioned relative to the anchor coordinates.

It does not automatically move the caption to the left, center, or right edge.

Text Color

Use the Color input to select the text fill color.

Default:

#FFFFFF

This produces white text.

Text Opacity

The Opacity slider ranges from 1 to 100.

The initial value is 100%.

The implementation uses Canvas global alpha.

This means text opacity affects both the fill and its border.

Text Border

GIF Ops provides four border options.

BorderBehavior
LightThin outline
MediumMedium outline
HeavyThick outline
NoneNo outline

Outline thickness scales with font size.

Light

Approximately 6% of font size, with a minimum of 2 pixels.

Medium

Approximately 9% of font size, with a minimum of 3 pixels.

Heavy

Approximately 12% of font size, with a minimum of 4 pixels.

Border Color

Choose the outline color using the Border Color selector.

Default:

#000000

This produces a black text outline.

Border Opacity

The Border Opacity slider ranges from 1 to 100.

It separately adjusts the outline's alpha before the overall text opacity is applied.

For example:

Text Opacity: 80%
Border Opacity: 50%

The final outline appearance is affected by both settings.

Rendering Limitations

GIF Ops currently renders a single text string per frame.

It does not provide separate caption layers or independently styled words within the same frame.

Automatic line wrapping and advanced text layout are not implemented in the supplied source.

Long captions may extend beyond the canvas boundaries.

Tips for Readability

  • Use strong contrast between text and the GIF.
  • Add an outline when the background is busy.
  • Keep captions short.
  • Preview frames individually.
  • Avoid placing text over important visual content.
  • Check the result after GIF export, not only in the canvas preview.
