Getting Started with Papercraft

Papercraft provides a browser-based workspace for viewing and working with PDF documents. This guide introduces the application interface, navigation, and general usage.

Requirements

Papercraft requires a modern web browser with JavaScript enabled.

The application uses browser-compatible PDF processing libraries.

Its interface references:

  • PDF.js
  • pdf-lib
  • JavaScript modules
  • Browser-based document rendering
  • Local file processing

The complete PDF processing experience depends on the available browser features and loaded libraries.

Opening Papercraft

Navigate to:

https://papercraft.digital/

The application's default route redirects to the PDF Viewer.

Application Navigation

The supplied HTML includes the following navigation tabs:

TabRouteStatus
Viewer#/viewerImplemented
Merge#/mergePlaceholder
Organize#/organizePlaceholder
Watermark#/watermarkImplemented
Scrub#/scrubPlaceholder
About#/aboutImplemented

The router additionally defines placeholder routes for Split, Extract, Redact, and Compare.

These additional routes are not included in the supplied main navigation.

Selecting a Tool

Click the appropriate navigation tab.

Papercraft uses URL hash-based routing, allowing the application to change tools without requiring a completely separate HTML page.

For example:

#/viewer

opens the Viewer.

#/watermark

opens the Watermark tool.

Active Navigation

The application highlights the currently selected navigation link.

This makes it easier to identify which tool is active.

Opening a PDF

Use the file selection controls provided by the selected tool to choose a document from your device.

The PDF is then processed through the browser-side tool implementation.

Switching Between Tools

You can navigate between tools using the top navigation.

The supplied router recreates the selected tool's interface when its route is activated.

Do not assume that unfinished work or unsaved settings will persist when switching tools.

Appearance

The interface includes a theme toggle control.

The HTML provides separate light-theme and dark-theme favicon assets.

The exact theme persistence behavior is not established by the supplied application code.

About Page

The About route summarizes the application's design and available functionality.

It describes:

  • Client-side privacy
  • Viewer capabilities
  • Watermarking capabilities
  • Planned additional tools

Unsupported Routes

For tools not yet implemented, Papercraft displays a placeholder message:

This tool will be added in the follow-up modules.
Current features remain intact.

This indicates that the selected function is not available in the supplied version.

Best Practices

  1. Open a PDF in the Viewer before modifying it.
  2. Keep an original copy.
  3. Use Watermark when a visible document label is needed.
  4. Review the resulting document before sharing it.
  5. Avoid relying on placeholder tools for production workflows.

Next Steps
