GIF Ops
Add text to animated GIFs, directly in your browser.
Users can upload an animated GIF, customize text overlays on individual frames, preview the animation, and export the edited result as a GIF. Unlike a static image captioning tool, GIF Ops supports frame-specific text and styling.

How GIF Ops Works
GIF Ops uses a frame-based editing workflow.
- Upload an animated GIF.
- Decode its frames.
- Select a frame from the timeline.
- Add or customize text.
- Position the text on the preview.
- Apply settings to other frames if needed.
- Preview the animation.
- Render and download the resulting GIF.
Three Main Workspace Areas
Project
Contains file loading, frame-range tools, and export options.
Preview
Displays the selected GIF frame, animation playback controls, and a frame timeline.
Text & Style
Contains text, font, color, border, opacity, and positioning controls for the selected frame.
Per-Frame Editing
Each decoded frame has its own text settings.
You can give one frame a caption and leave another without text.
You can also change the position or styling of a caption as the animation progresses.
For consistent captions, use the batch editing controls.
Fonts
Available font selections include:
- Impact
- Anton
- Inter
- System UI
- Arial Black
- Georgia
- Courier New
Actual rendering may depend on browser font availability and whether web fonts have loaded.
Export Formats
| Format | Purpose |
|---|---|
| GIF | Final edited animation |
| JSON | Reusable text and styling settings |
JSON export does not include the original GIF image data.
Privacy and Local Processing
GIF Ops performs its GIF editing operations in the browser.
The supplied implementation does not contain an upload endpoint for submitting GIF files to a QVLx editing server.
The page does load Google Fonts, which is a separate external resource request.
Browser Compatibility
GIF decoding requires the WebCodecs ImageDecoder API.
The application directs users toward current Chromium-based browsers, including Chrome and Edge, when this API is unavailable.
GIF export additionally depends on the included gifshot.js library.
